Why upgrade your AC?
While there are many reasons to upgrade your air conditioner. The most common reasons include, replacing a broken one, wanting a more efficient and quiet one, being tired of being hot and uncomfortable in the summer due to not having one, wanting to increase the value of your home, or wanting the peace of mind that comes from owning a new air conditioner covered by warranty.
Types of Air Conditioners:
Traditional Central Air Conditioners – These are the most common source of air conditioning. An indoor and outdoor air condition unit work in tandem with your furnace to evenly distribute cool air throughout the home from a single source via ductwork. Air conditioners all run off of electricity but use refrigerant to move heat from the indoors to outdoors. Air conditioners come in a variety of different cooling capacities and efficiency levels. There are many brands available and also many different feature levels. One important feature available on some air conditioners could be the ability to adjust the refrigerant flow rates (cooling rates) to help give you more steady temperatures.
Heat Pumps – A heat pump is not needed for cooling but it can cool. The difference between a traditional air conditioner and a heat pump is simply that a heat pump has the ability to reverse its flow if refrigerant. That means that during the cold months it can switch from moving heat to the outdoors and begin to move heat from the outdoors to the indoors. Heat pumps are air conditioners that can also act as a heater. They are always supplemented by some form of furnace to help keep up with heating demands during extremely low temperatures.
Ductless – A ductless air conditioner operates in the same way as a traditional central air conditioner. Heat is absorbed in a wall mounted indoor unit and then transferred to an outdoor unit where it is released to the outdoors. The big difference here is (you guessed it) there is no ductwork involved. That means that the cool air goes directly into the room that the indoor unit is installed in. This can be a benefit or disadvantage depending on your specific situation. Multiple indoor units can be connected to a single outdoor unit.
